Classifications of Malware 3
Virus vs. Worm
The main distinction is the requirement for a host.
Virus:
Mechanism: Attaches itself to executable code (the host). When the host runs, the virus runs.
Spread: Requires user interaction (e.g., opening an email attachment, inserting a USB).
Worm:
Mechanism: Standalone program. Does not need a host file.

Eigenvalues & Eigenvectors
Definition
For a square matrix A, a non-zero vector v is an eigenvector
if Av = λv for some scalar λ (the eigenvalue).
Characteristic Polynomial
det(A − λI) = 0 gives the eigenvalues.
Worked Example
A = [[2,1],[1,2]] → λ = 3, 1. Eigenvectors (1,1), (1,−1).

Process Scheduling
Scheduling Criteria
CPU utilisation — keep the CPU as busy as possible.
Throughput — number of processes completed per unit time.
Turnaround time — submission → completion.
Waiting time — time spent in the ready queue.
Response time — submission → first response.

Chapter 2: Literature Review
Introduction
This chapter surveys existing work on collaborative study
platforms, with particular attention to spaced-repetition
and peer-learning outcomes in higher education.
2.1 Peer-Learning Systems
Prior work (Topping, 2005) identifies reciprocal peer tutor
as producing measurable gains across STEM cohorts.
